After the small summer ad-assignment was over we got a bigger project to work on. Same principle but just bigger. Eight to twelve pages with a minimum of five photos + a magazine cover. The theme this time was “culture”, preferably Västervik-culture (if that is a thing).
My mind got caught in the idea of an article about cultural appropriation. It's something I find very important and interesting and I think people have a responsibility to have a deeper knowledge about other cultures, especially if something is inspired by other cultures you should understand what it means and what it could mean for other people. I don't know it there's a completely right answer but it's still an important subject to discuss.
Since I myself am very fascinated and love Japanese, Chinese and Korean culture I desicided to photograph various things of mine that I have from there and that can convey a certain feeling. Eastern asian countries aare very popular with western teenagers/young adults so that's where my idea came from.
I think I got a little caught up in the process and thought more about the article and what it would say and discuss than the actual photos that we were supposed to take. I finished it and passed but I feel I could have done a better job.
I might take another shot at it as a personal assignment later this term.
